I paint with glazes of colors yet
unseen on the bisque fired piece.

The Natural dyed hemp threads,
button and face weigh about 10g.

厚揚げと灰釉流れ-Let Glaze Run

山椒の木の若葉摘み
ポンと手の平で叩く
香りぷーーんと立つ

'Atsuage Nimono(Stew)'
pork/deep fried tofu/hijiki seaweed
konjac gel/eggplant/soy sauce
cane sugar/soup stock/ginger


採取土と益子土をまぜた
荒土をうすくひいた、鉢
貝殻灰と木灰の釉薬かけ
籾殻や貝殻入れ、鞘焼成

I picked young leaves of
the sansho (Zanthoxylum piperitum)
tree in the garden and slapped them
between my palms to release the aroma.

Bowl: locally collected clay mixed
seashell ash + wood ash glazes
fired in saggar 19cm Hx 7cm D

空色おちょこ-Sky Blue Sake Cup

猪口に、「空ともくもく」
どうかしら、と、半磁器土
ちょこちょこのばしあげた

What if "Sky and Puff Puff"
on hand pinched white clay?

手のなかにすぽっ、と
おさまる果てしない空

As looking down on the tiny cup(4-5cm H)
in my hands, I see 'infinite fullness'.

肉詰茄子と三つ葉ツツジ-Stuffed Eggplant

三つ葉ツツジ植えたのは、7~8年前
翌年咲いたがそれっきり、期待して
春を待つもがっかり、葉っぱばかり
思い切って場所変えて、三年待った

わーい、とうとう濃い紫の蕾ついた

It has been 7 or 8 years now
since we bought a 'Rhododendron
dilatatum' tree.
It bloomed the next year, but never again.
Then I replanted it in a more sunny corner.

Finally this spring, after waiting in vain for
years, I noticed the purple buds forming!!

たんぽぽともくもく-Dandelion & Puff Puff

やっぱり、たんぽぽ、好き
朝は、ぐっすり寝てるけど
おひさますっかりあたって
のびして花びらひろげてく

I think I like dandelions again.
As walking in the early morning
I find them still deep in sleep.
They wouldn't open until
the sunlight touches their petals.

本焼きに耐えたんで
さくい土、念じながら(BLOG4/11)
なんとかろくろで挽き
こわごわ素焼き本焼き

ドロマイトブラウンと名づけ
た、ベージュから茶、の鉄釉
おや、ピンク色に反応してる


I chose a matt glaze, named
'dolomite brown' for this bowl.
It normally turns beige/brown
on white clay.
Look at the pink inside, which
I suppose is 'iron' mystery.

氷で冷やす、ほどじゃないが
あったかい昼、はつ「冷麺」

Hiyashi Chuka, cold ramen
noodle salad, is a perfect
dish for a warm day like yesterday.
The bright colors are appetizing!

富士とたんぽぽ-Mt.Fuji and Dandelion

むしろ、
タンポポの
黄色まぶしい
いま
峰の雪
いっそう深い

The mountains have more snow
now, when the joyful yellow petals
of Dandelion flower radiate in all
directions, than they did a month ago.

呼ぶ声、聞こえたのだろうか
　「京都で頂きましたベトナムの龍（？）
　　の花器.......まことに使い勝手がよく
　　あと一ツお送り賜りたく......」
二ツつくった青のガーゴイル
また一緒になれたね、うれしい


I made two bottles of this kind.
The person, who bought one
at the show in Kyoto, asked me
to send her another.
　 I am happy they are now together again.

一日、静岡の街歩き、駅前で
何年ぶりか、ハンス・コパー
ルーシー・リーの掻き落とし
刻まれた表面のテクスチャー
さわれないのは美術館の限界

We drove down to Shizuoka
and walked around the town.
"Hans Coper & Lucie Rie", whose
ceramic pieces I had seen before.
It is the limits of museum that we
can't touch the "scratched" surface.


午後、青葉公園に集まった、800人
呉服町--七軒町--両替町--中部電力前
コンガのリズムで、菜の花パレード

We took part in the protest march
demanding "No Nukes!".
Hamaoka, 50km south-west of
Shizuoka city, sits directly over
the subduction zone
near the junction of two plates.

青空ばかり、だと無言だが
雲生まれるや、おしゃべり
さっきの雲も今のも大好き

Just a blue sky is silent.
Once clouds appear, it starts talking.
The cloud a moment ago,
and another at this moment.
I like both very much!
The commission is now
ready to be sent!

西表島粘土：種子島粘土
きっとへたるだろう、と
予想したが焼成に耐えた

耐火性あるも収縮が違う

It's always fun to see
what character clays
show through firing.

菜の花ちらしと緑鉢-Chirashizushi in Green Bowl

春を盛る、にぴったり？
どっしりした「緑の円窓」

I chose the soft, quiet green hues for
"scattered sushi" with spring vegetables.

お弁当つくった残りごはん
温め、寿司酢ふりかけ混ぜ
鉢にひろげて、春の原っぱ

"Field in spring" with lightly cooked
rape blossoms & eringi mushroom,
cucumber, radish, wakame seaweed,
strawberry, carrot, shiso leaf,
red cabbage sprouts, and raw
yellow tail/squid scattered
over sweet vinegared rice.

山積み素焼き-Stacking Greenware

すっかり乾いた作品
山盛りにして素焼き
揺れなくてよかった

Just pile it all in the kiln.
You can stack greenware
for a bisque firing since
greenware won't stick to itself.

煮物から春巻-Leftovers into Spring Roll

まさか、と思ったが
あっけっこう同じ具

牛蒡、筍、蒟蒻、人参
細昆布、鶏肉を細切り
豚肉とレタスをたして
フライパンで炒り水分
とばし片栗粉水からめ

カリッ、と、サクサク

Leftovers never go wasted in my house.
It occurred to me, why not turn
Nimono, or simmered vegetable dish,
into spring rolls?
