The water(light) blue
and white slips applied
to leather hard clay.

黒砂は玄武岩の粒-Basaltic Lava Sand

溶岩が海に流れ込み
砕け散る、すごいなぁ

It's amazing that lava
explodes as it reaches
the ocean and cools.

窯の中ですっかり溶けて
意外にガラス成分少なく
熱膨張が激しかったのか
冷却で割れている

グリーンポタージュの残りと

Leftover potage(made with
leftover ingredients) and rice
make a good risotto, which
was topped with stir fried
spinach and beef(seasoned
with garlic, soy sauce and

pepper).

「想定のたわみ」脚付き角皿-Intentional Warping

焼成中にまんなかがへこむ
のを期待したが、ほどよい

釉薬は土より熱膨張が大きく
冷え固まるときも大きく縮む
で、ひっぱられてワープする


I wanted some warping
during firing. It turned
out not bad.

"The warping can be
caused by the “pull”
of a cooling glaze,
which solidifies before
the body has become
entirely rigid."

にしよかと石をみつめ歩く

If asked what's good about
walking mountain trails,
I could only really think of
one thing; unconsciously
stop thinking and just
looking for rocks.

鮭のソテーと盛る
サーモンピンク皿

Leftover vegetables like
broccoli stalks can be
cooked & combined in a
food processor, which
will make a nice sauce.

about worn out shoes
that I simply love and
embrace. That is the

It's been here for ten years.
I wanted the object to
have a rough imperfect dull
surface.　I still do.

粘土ひもで田植え-Clay Coil Rice Planting

こういうしごと、もする
太さ2〜3mmのこよりを
植え込む、あぶなっかし

乾くと白くなる半磁器土
素焼きが無事にできたら
顔料で黄緑の釉にしよう

I sometimes do coil work
for delicate structure.

米麹の甘酒饅頭-Amazake Manjū

炊飯器の保温で麹を甘酒に
生姜加えフードプロにかけ

粉と練り、餡を包んで蒸す
目分量の、あんちょく饅頭

I made Ama(=sweet)zake
(sake), drink made from
fermented rice and then
manjū, a steamed cake
filled with red bean paste.

浅間山、の東に連なる
水ノ塔山・東篭ノ登山
稜線歩いて林道を戻る

崩壊斜面の岩砕き焼成

Last month we hiked
parasitic lava domes in
the east of Asamayama.

火山、だから耐火度が
低いだろうと思ったら
長石が溶けかろうじて
粒子をつないでる様子

どうやら「自立」した
砂粒なので粘土作品の
キメのザラザラに使ぉっ

This finely crushed rock
might be applied on the
surface of my clay pieces,
which I want to be coarse.

苔の生えた切り株に
皿をのせ盛っている
あいだにも降る紅葉

While some branches were
arranged in the plate on the
moss-covered stump, leaves
fell and piled up.

鉄平石で叩いてみたが
「かたく」て割れない

「フィリピン海プレート
　の衝突でせり上がった
　海底火山の凝灰岩地層」

People talk about the
"extraordinary climate
change", forgetting that
the Earth is ever changing.

watching out for dog poop,
I saw these colorful handbuilt
bowls through window.

秋の土鍋シチュー-Clay Pot Stew

丸々太ったカリフラワー
花も葉も茎も、ぜーんぶ

花は硬めで取り出しておく
彩りにコーンとほうれん草

I’m now a huge fan of claypot
cooking. (three different pots)
Claypots keep the food warm
and further slow-cook it.

夏に、馬をつくりはじめた
つもりがラクダの口になり
結局二こぶラクダになった

A couple of months ago
I began to make a horse
head, of which mouth and
nostrils looked just like a
camel. It turned into a
Bactrian camel after all.
But not this time.

ほんのり甘酸っぱぁい
まあるく深くとろーり

そうなったから良かった
けどフードプロさまさま

まず煮込んだ玉葱と薩摩芋

おかゆ、さつま汁、ついに
ヨーグルト、カスタード、
林檎+鶏ガラ顆粒+トムヤム......

It was a delicate mix of
sweet, sour and savory.
The bowl by a French potter.

crushed are on display.

ニッケルを調合した薄紫釉
のせてみたがぱっとしない
新呉須の青紫釉重ね再焼成

そうそう、小諸の街歩きして
て、高浜虚子(高濱 清)の庵の
近くに「紫」式部咲いてたな

Mamezara, literally
"bean plate", is a
condiment plate.
