あかい、のを選んで
柿と貝柱わさび和え

On pile of fluffy fallen leaves
I found a 'momiji' that would
go well with the Raku Bowl by
a French ceramicist.

Persimmon, scallops, carrot
and 'myouga' dressed with
sesame paste/soy sauce/
wasabi preserved in sake lees/
some finely chopped 'negi'

韓国粘土で甕づくり-Making Korean Clay Jar

骨壺、のことだが
見送る、のならきっと
骨灰かなにか壺にいれ
「そうか、もう君はいないのか」(城山三郎）
と、手の平で包み込む

Talking of 'urn',
if I were to send my love to heaven
i would probably put some bone/ash
in a tiny jar like this(7.5cm H).
As holding it in my palms,
i would say, "Oh, I almost forgot
that you are not here anymore."

You can tie a ribbon across the lid.

コーン焼売と黒角皿-Corn Shumai

あとは、蒸すばかり
We are now ready to go
into the steamer.

ingredients:（how to）
wonton wrappers/ground pork/corn/
finely chopped 'negi' green onion/
grated ginger & carrot/
cooked rolled barley/oyster sauce/
sesame oil/salt/red pepper

Corn kernels frozen after boiled and
rubbed off the cobs with our thumbs.

不思議なのは教室で
土練りをはじめるや
誰もが土の声を聞く

指先、がこんなにも
やさしく触れる感覚
土と私と


It's a miracle that
people come to my clay class
and 'soon' get intimate with the clay.
The touch of the fingers shapes the clay,
which is gentle, not oppressive.

済州島の海砂-Test Jeju-do Sand

火山島とはいえ、柱状節理の断崖と
石ころごろごろの波ぎわに挟まれた
中文海岸の砂、黒い溶岩に白い長石

富士山スコリアならどろっと溶けるが
なるほど焼締まってる、ってことは？

Upper:良洞村（慶州 Kyŏngju）
Lower:中文海岸（済州 Cheju）
　　　塩抜きしなかったから、火色出た

It is a volcanic island, but the sea sand
under the cliff of columnar joints shows
it consists of more than just 'basalt'.

白菜クリームと青緑鉢-Cream Soup in Blue-Green

しとしと冷たい雨の日は
白菜スープであったまろ

Gentle but cold rain all day.
How about Hakusai for dinner?
I found It has another name,
'Napa cabbage'....interesting!
(I first thought it refers to Napa valley.
WIKI says it comes from 'Nappa' or
the leaves of any vegetable.)

Ingredients:
rapeseed oil/garlic/hakusai/broccoli/
bacon/Maitake mushroom/sea salt/
Zatar/pepper/flour/milk

つくってるときはちっとも
不思議に思わなかったけど
窯から出て、あれなんか変？

It was not until I took it out
of the kiln that I found something wrong.
The sun is shining through!

lightly vinegar-pickled mackerel
rice dressed with sweetened vinegar
dried seasoned laver/sesame/wasabi.....
'salad' veggies like mizuna mustard, myoga ginger.......
'cooked veggies' like kinpira-gobou, green bean..

and hares like weeds,
and so I thought of painting
their field........

凍れる山の釉薬-Glaze for Icy Mountain Top

黒土でお山、つくり
白絵土で薄く雪化粧

素焼きして、長石釉
こんもりのせ焼いた
釉下の絵土のひびよ


After bisque firing, I chose
a feldspar(9:fake ash1) glaze.
I wondered how it wouldl turn out.

The tiny cracks of the white
clay slip coat through the melted
or semi transparent glaze, I like it.

方形のグラタン-Gratin au Chou-fleur

耐熱土でつくったこの取っ手付き
出番が多いのは小ぶりですっぽり
オーブントースターに入っちゃう

This rectangular baking dish
may be one of the most useful
ceramic pieces I made.
It just fits in our toaster oven,
and there's no need to heat up
the whole oven for browning.

「混ぜる」と違う「和える」
辛子や酢味噌、胡麻、豆腐
で、ふんわりと「つなぐ」

南瓜チーズサラダ-Pumpkin Cheese Salad

農産物販売所で教えてもらった
おいしい南瓜の選び方、お尻の
リング大きくてはっきりしたの

When I choose a pumpkin (15cm d.)
at the farmers' market,
I always look at the bottom of
the pumpkin at the ring.
They say the bigger the ring
the sweeter the pumpkin is.

慶州の良洞民族村の、家々
庭に、それが並んでてこそ
佇まいが成り立つ風だった

あの絵本には、取っ手を
通してひもを十字にかけ
背負子に結ぶ絵があった

What shall I make with
the clay I bought at Gwangju
Museum?
A miniature of traditional Onggi jar
used for fermenting kimch-8 cm H.

grandfather' carved from porous
volcanic rock in Jeju, Korea.

We are starting to explore

柿渋を染める-Unripe Persimmon Dye

クッションカバー
つくりかえよ、っと
キャンバス地じょきじょき
切って、輪ゴムで絞り、
タライで柿渋に浸けた
のが、春

It was in spring that I started
making new canvas cushion covers.


Kakishibu, fermented tannin juice,
stinks in the beginning, but now
the smell is gone and the sunlight
has deepend the color enough.
It looks and feels like "Kamiko", paper cloth.

彫刻へっぴり腰＠藤垈の滝-Witty Sculpture

甲府からの帰り、精進湖線から
大窪鶯宿線で「ふじぬたのたき」
森林公園の33の彫刻、これ抜群

As driving back from Kofu,
we found this sculpture
(about 60cm H) in a forest park.


その名も、「屁っ放り腰」

The title is "Heppiri-goshi",
literally 'fart-hip', or
'hip stuck out' pose when farting.
It means 'backing away' from what
is making him unconfident.

山羊の記憶-Goat in Clay

I hear this piece of mine
happens to be in Holland.
思い浮かぶのは、いつも
絵本の「やぎのしずか」

The image that first comes to my mind
is the goat Shizuka, a picture book
I used to read with my kids.


思い出せないが、いつか
見たはずの記憶たどって
粘土玉ひろげてお尻から

I grab a chunk of clay
for the hip first and....

How come is it a sheep that
you wanted to make?
Well, I just wanted to make one.


羊はあったかそうで
山羊はクールで孤高
そうなの？

I associate sheep with warmth
and goat with aloneness.
Is it true?
