Rosa multiflora thorns prick me
and murmur life lies in Michi-kusa,
literally Grass on the wayside, as a
horse would 'dilly-dally' by stopping
to eat the grass.

豚生姜焼き豆腐丼-"Donburi" in Burgundy Bowl

なんだって、どんぶり
豚肉+絹厚揚げ+ネギ+空心菜
生姜+出汁醤油+みりん

"Le 'donburi' est un bol de grande taille."
Pork, tofu, 'negi' leek and water spinach
seasoned with ginger, soy sauce and sake
on top of steaming rice.
Donburi can be made from almost any
ingredients, including left-overs.

よくきたねぇ、と
火あびて溶け合い
ぎりぎり留まった
割れ、いとおしい

"Bienvenue!!"
I would caress the split/crack
in the clay body, of which
particles fused together and
survived the heat thankfully.

栗菓子と風の皿-Chestnut & 'Wind' Plate

食後、でも間に合う
栗とお芋のデザート

栗と甘藷と水、小鍋で煮る
柔らかめ、になってきたら
蜂蜜とマーマレード加えて
フォークでつぶし水飛ばす

After lunch I wanted something sweet.
I looked at the peeled chestnuts
we collected and an idea came to me.
Cook chestnuts and sweet potato until tender.
Mash with fork and mix in honey and marmalade.
When all of the water is gone, it's done.

My ceramic piece:13.5cm X 4.5cm /Le titre est "vent".

茹でると、赤くなる
のは、なんでかな？

Why does a crab's shell turn
red-orange when cooked?




タイワンガザミか
生は暗緑色らしい

「色素アスタキサンチンが
蛋白質と離れると赤色に」
養殖銀鮭の餌にアスタキサンチン
混ぜ身を赤くしている、らしい

後悔、し続けなければ

There are some inconvenient truths
we must remember and repent for.





1954年、アメリカが
ビキニ環礁で水爆実験
マーシャル諸島の住民は被爆
日本の漁船第五福竜丸の船員
23人も死の灰を浴びた

３年後、ベン・シャーンが
"Lucky Dragon Series"を描き
50年後、アーサー・ビナードが
「日本語」で詩を書き絵本にした

The Fukuryu Maru No. 5 as well
as the people of Bikini Atoll
was exposed to fallout from
a U.S. hydrogen bomb test in the
Pacific Ocean in March 1954.

Three years later, Ben Shahn drew
a series of paintings of the fishing boat.
Fifty years later, this picture book was published
accompanied by poems written by Arthur Binard
"in Japanese".

　　--鉄やマグネシュームが多い苦鉄質mafic

3. Materials only(on the edge of the pieces):
　　Some even melt at 1225℃.
　　What if I mix into clay body or use as slip?

Toramame, literally 'tiger bean'
tastes much better than 'just beans',
after cooked in a thermos
even without pre-soaking.

This tiny thing--- thick glass with
gold foil and air bubble inclusions.

山繭蛾のデザイン-Silk Moth Design

数年前、蚕30匹ほどいただいた
白い繭ができ、やがて小さいガ

ある時、桜の小枝から緑色の繭
ぶらさがってた、それがこれ？

「大きな翅だが、うまく飛べない....
口は退化し、羽化したら生殖して
死んでしまう.....」あー、ガ、よ

"Deux Belles Ailes"

One day I saw a bright green cocoon
hanging from a twig of the cherry tree.
It's "tensan" silk moth (Antheraea yamamai) .
They have no mouth.
They just fight, mate, lay eggs and die.

カップ「空ともくもく」-Cup:Sky & MOKUMOKU

そう名づけたのは
窯からでてきた時
クレヨンで描いた
雲みたいだったし

When it came out of the kiln,
I named it "Sora to Mokumoku".
It's a mimetic word for 'cumulus
clouds', like "puff puff ."


土玉、指先でのばし上げたら
なんかつけたくなって、「手」

のぞきこんでる、つもりだった
が、
なにぶらさがってんの、と寸評

"Toujours improvisé"
When I smoothed the edge,
an idea fell on me, 'hands',
like looking over into something,
which turned out to be the sky.

カサゴ、慎重に下ごしらえ
危ないエラ、ハサミで切り
背中から骨ぞいに包丁入れ

Cut off the sharp fins.
Scale and gut your fish
to get it ready.
Slide your knife between
the meat and bone.



地粉まぶし、じっくり揚げる
骨が頑固なぶん、自慢の身体
カリカリ、ほぐほぐおいしっ

"Poissons cuits à la friteuse"
Coat the fish with flour and
deep fry until golden brown.

I wanted to use her piece
right away, and served 'Tendon',
tempura over rice, for dinner.

人は「食べ物=いのち」を
保存、料理し、盛るための
「うつわ」、つくってきた

"Poteries et Nourriture (est Vie)"
People have made clay/pottery
vessels used for storing, cooking
and serving "food=life".

やや乾いたら、段ボール板折って
内側をささえ、ひっくりかえして
底や角など、指先でなでるなでる

The clay piece is put upside down,
of which inside is supported by
a folded piece of cardboard, and
waits to be smoothed with my fingers.

錦糸玉子焼いて、散らし寿司

Yesterday I bought 'assorted sashimi'
at the fish store, and made Chirashi-zushi,
which is literally 'scattered sushi'.

多めにつくってはねた、足付
大皿、 31cmx26cmx5cm

'un plat rectangulaire pour des sushi'
This plate is a little deformed,
one of those I made for a sushi restaurant.
Making plates can be tricky,
especially large ones with legs.

Rond ou rectangulaire?
While I visited my friends this summer,
I realized I have no rectangular bakeware
in my kitchen except for bread pans.

My ceramic bakeware:20cmx7.5cm; heat-resistant clay　耐熱粘土
Meat Sauce Pie:meat sauce+egg+some dried 'fu' (wheat gluten)

蛇の目蝶-Ja-no-Me Butterfly

ジャノメチョウ
ジャノメガサ
ジャノメミシン
じゃのめで/おむかい/うれしいな！

This（Minois dryas bipunctata) is
a very distinctive butterfly with eyespots.
Ja-no-Me-cho literally means
snake-'s-eye-butterfly.
'Ja' is onyomi reading of 'hebi' or snake.

I like the unconscious
posture of hands, when
you kneel down, and cup
your hands to scoop water.

of wood and shaved/carved a little bit.

While cooling down for 3 hours,
'sauce à boeuf pour des pâtes' thickened and the flavour deepened.

粘土ひとにぎり
カップつくろう
丸、がしだいに
楕円に、縁には
のぞきこむよに
手、くっついた

A ball of clay was
hand pinched into a
cup, which was round,
and then became oval.
As I trimmed the edge,
i heard it say 'curious hands'.
Let the clay become what it will.

Summer vegetables are
watery in nature, and
so I want to eat a lot!
J'aime légumes d'été.

macaroni/bacon/corn/flour/milk
cardamom/thyme/red pepper/cheese
sea salt..... served with baked nan

I found "Earth" (Smithsonian) at
Borders' Bargain Corner in S.F.
So heavy, but I couldn't resist.
The ceramic pieces on it are for glaze tests,
of which key components are clay/sand/pumice.

胡麻ナン-Sesame Nan Curry Plate

S.F.のカレー思い出し
溶岩プレートで白ごま
+ヨーグルトナン焼いて
残りカレーを、
人参+牛乳+そば粉でアレンジ

I re-cooked leftover curry
by adding carrot, seafood mix,
milk, buckwheat flour, herbs and spices.
I also baked nan on lava plate,
remembering the curry house in S.F.


やはり使い切れずに冷凍した
いんげんとベーコン炒め、つ
いでに金平牛蒡つくりサラダ

Coming home means
improvising recipes every day.
Remember? The fridge magnet
said, "Happiness is Homemade".
