Mame(bean)zara(plate) is
a small serving dish that
fits in the palm.
Plates, because of their large
horizontal area, are especially
prone to warping.

のんびり熊皿-Hang Loose Bear Plate

クマの顔、頭に浮かべながら
ほんの少しの粘土をのばして
丸くして新聞つめ、なでたり
押したり微妙な凹凸つけてく
と、だんだん、生まれてくる

By rubbing and pressing a small
piece of clay, a bear's head is
appearing between my fingers.

青の釉、白の釉-Not Bright Glazes

「かげり」について考える
澄み切った空もよーく見る
と、翳ってる、だから深い
二度焼いてようやく現れた

I love 'backward colors'
as well as contrastive colors.
After second firing, the colors
are more deep and vivid now.

豚角煮と黒半球鉢-Braised Pork Belly

脚付き黒鉢、ずいぶん前に
買って、きょうこそ出番だ

トロトロとろけそうなバラ
ゴボウもやわらかく煮えた

Cooked over low heat, actually
on our wood stove for a long
period of time, the “stewed
square cut pork” is so tender
it melts in your mouth.

正月、東伊豆の「稲生沢川」
散歩してたら、こんな石ごろ
ごろ、コッツウォルドみたい
ジオマップの梨本石灰岩か？

As walking along
Inouzawagawa River
early this month,
I got excited to
find rocks like limestone
in Cotswolds, England.

天使の羽根、雪？霜？

　温度が急速に低下し
　空気中の水蒸気が

雪、を待ってたんだ
京都個展に連れてく
仲間たちを撮影して
四つ切り写真も展示する

I've been waiting for snow,
on which I wanted to take
photos of my ceramic snails
for the coming show in Kyoto.

木とカタツムリ、タイトルは
「ここに君がいなければ」

　 The title of this snail on tree is
"If you were not here"

鉄分:ナラ灰とマツ灰-Fe2O3:Oak/Pine Ash

鉄分が少ない灰は、柞(イス)灰0.18％
昔から透明釉の調合に使われてるようだ

そのひょんの実、吹いては
熱田神宮境内の柞の垣根と
ひつまぶし、思い出すなぁ

ところでテスト(参考にした成分表では）
マツPine:Fe2O3 (3.41%)
ナラOak1:Fe2O3 (0.74%)
ナラOak2:Fe2O3 (0.74%)

ちなみにカラマツ(5.94%)

テーブルに転がったアボカド
熟した、カップにラップ敷き
サラダ重ねてひっくり返した

It often happens that my avocado
is ripening before I have a chance
to eat it. Yesterday WAS perfect.

焼成中の熱膨張おさえるのに
釉薬にもペタライト調合した

取っ手はかたつむり
蓋なし、直径20cm


Do(clay)-nabe(pot) can be
used over a direct heat source.
I'm glad the glaze recipe
of mine turned out all right.

窯から出てきた作品が
うむもうひとつやなぁ

もう一度、釉薬かけて
焼こうか、というとき
これ混ぜるとのり易い

When I'm not satisfied with
a fired piece, I sometimes
re-glaze and fire it again.
This glue makes the glaze sticky.

雑木灰と楢灰と自然釉-Unwashed Ash Glaze

そもそも、高温の火のなかで
薪の灰がうつわに降りかかり
素地の珪酸分溶かし、自然釉

灰は篩うだけで水簸せず調合
アクや不純物たっぷりの釉薬

パンづくりで、ふだんは発酵力
の強い酵母菌を、純粋培養した
ドライイースト使うのとま逆？

Some say wood ash should be washed
to remove all the impurities, but I don't.
I use 'dry yeast' instead of natural yeast
when making bread, though.

　　「大飯」と変換しちゃう）
　　叩音重い
左：透明/貫入多し
　　ピンホール少なめ
　　叩音軽い

a glaze to stiffen and tend
towards opacity.
Glazes will often have
pinhole defects."

You are right, and so I added
another layer of glaze4 over 2.

平らな青花小皿-Plate with Slight Rim

皿のふちが上がってると
広がりが、途切れちゃう
あるかないかの微妙な縁

これが案外むずかし
粘土玉を手でひろげ
縁を締め上げ、戻す

I wanted the flat of the plate
to extend without being
blocked by the rim.
It still needs some rim, though.

甘酒蕪と火色皿-Kabura Amazake Pickle

いったん火を入れると
たちまち柔らかいかぶ
と大根、似て非なりﾌﾑ

甘酒のもと、で漬けた

Kabura turnip pickled
in amazake, literally sweet
sake, which is made from
fermented rice.

コバルト単身で青絵-Cobalt Pigment

酸化コバルトの粉粒は
水でどんだけ薄めても
「藍」、濃淡を遊べる

ちょっと乳濁する釉薬
とからんで表情和らぐ
てびねり茶わん：11cm x 6cm

As starting with a ball of clay,
I feel the surface indentations
from my thumbs and fingers.
A small amount of cobalt oxide
mixed thinly with water is applied
and the color is diluted by the glaze
over it.

砂質粘土とピンホール-Sandy Clay & Pinholes

黒雲母で白御影土つくろ、と
蛙目粘土+セリサイトに
山砂擂ってまぜて焼いた
いい感じ、調子にのって

The clay mixed with some sand
I ground worked well, and so....


さらに山砂、擂りもせず
蛙目+陶石+セリサイトに
ごそっとまぜてみたら
無釉部分の粗さったら

I put much more sand from
different area without grinding
in another clay mixture.
Wow, what a coarse surface!

おそらくそのためにルーペで
みると施釉部分に、ガス穴
志野焼のようだ、とみるか

It, I suppose, is why this
fired piece has got pinholes!
'Interesting' or 'glaze error'?
The choice is up to you.
