栃尾の油揚どうしよかな
白菜で具まいて半割詰め
キャンプ鍋ストーブの上

'Chinese cabbage rolls
stuffed in fried tofu pouch'

薄味、だが味がしみ込み
紫花豆の煮汁でやや甘め

Bowl: used some locally collected clay
homemade wood ash glaze
"Lustre de cendre""Esmalte de ceniza"

It noticed a wooden stake
that stuck out of the snow.
ドレっ、
のってみるか
雪見日和

"Dans la neige"
'En la nieve'
I see very far.
The frog came out of
the kiln recently.

以心伝心はあてにならない
気持ちは、動詞にしてこそ
歩き出す、で声と形にする

"Montrez votre amour"
"Demuestre su amor"
I don't believe in "a near-telepathic
understanding" especially between
women and men.
'Affection' is a word which
requires action behind it.
Shape of Love:sweet potato mashed with
homemade custard cream/cocoa powder

ハタハタのムニエル-Fish Meunière with Cavatappi

深海魚のカミナリウオ
鱗がなく骨離れもいい
パスタはカヴァタッピ
線柄くねくねマカロニ

"Sailfin sandfish is found
in sandy-muddy bottom areas
of the Asian side of the North Pacific."
It has no scales and is
free of the problem bones.

重ねて引き立つ青のうつわ-Bowl in Bowl

ふううくり煮えて、紫花豆
昭和レトロな酒杯と青緑皿

"Couleurs appétissantes"
"Colores apetitosos"
Blue and blue accentuate each other.
The beans cooked for two days
look wholesome.

カツ丼とドンブリ-Katsudon Bowl

タレのかかったごはん
一粒残さずたいらげる
うつわと箸使いの絶妙

I chose a straight sided bowl
for the dish, rice topped with
a deep-fried pork cutlet, egg,
vegetables and condiments.

We eat with a pair of chopsticks,
keeping in mind not to leave
even a single grain of rice.

青魚の味噌煮、せいせいと
染付絵皿、に盛りましょう

"Plat de maquereau"
”Saba no misoni”, or mackerel
simmered in miso sauce.

粘土玉をゆっくり
ひろげ、たちあげ
注ぎ口をつける頃
風景浮かんでくる
そうだ「海」だな

"Paysage marin"
"Paisaje marino"

How to make a clay ball
into a clay bowl---
- Slowly begin pinching and
working the ball
with your thumb and fingers.
Pinch the clay evenly,
stretching it out.

素地土と化粧土-Clay Body & Slip

かたちができ、ひとかわきしたら
濃い土泥（天然白絵土+採取土）
筆でのせていく、わけは
「ざらざら」が好き
釉薬が明るく溶ける

"La texture extérieure'
'La textura superficial'
Slips have great 'hiding power' that
enables them to cover the body and
mask its color, and to give a different
surface, from 'smooth' to 'coarse'.

「粘土をつかんだ瞬間に
生まれ出る手捻り人形」

そうなのよね、どうやら粘土
にも、なりたいかたちがある
らしく、聞きながら指動かす

The book is written about
KUBOTA Kaoru, who let the clay
become what it will in Nagasaki.

いただいたメールで、画家
Ben Nicholson を知り、ある
記憶にたどりついた、結婚
（1938年--1951年）相手
Hepworth?どっかで聞いた

そうだ、イギリス南西海岸
TATE ギャラリー、近くの
Museum & Sculpture Garden
「仕事場の道具」覚えてる

I searched for the painter's
name mentioned in a mail and
found he was once married to
'Hepworth', whose tools I still
remember vividly (trip in 2005).

ホタルイカリゾット-Firefly Squid Risotto

主役にすえたら
みごと花開いた
一匹づつ味わう

The tiny squids,
'hotaru-ika', are often
cooked as a side dish. I wanted to make them 'main'
and they responded very well!

「水色釉」の発見-Bright Blue Glaze

体験教室の作品「かぶ」
釉薬を重ねてスプレー
焼成してみたら、
緑と白がとけあい細かい
貫入がきらきら水色の光

Green glaze turned very bright
blue on a white matte.

「creamy white」ねっとりした白
だからそう名づけたが、イメチェン
色は肌合いであり離れて存在しない

Layering glaze-over-glaze results
in the glaze melting and fusing into
unexpected and exciting pools of liquid glass.

瓶「点々と縞々」-Partially Reduced Copper Glaze

灯油窯の温度1000℃に達したころ
煙突の煙黒くなり、炎舞うオーロラ

At about 1,000℃,
I saw the flame flaring like aurora
and black smoke from the chimney.

いっときの還元状態（酸素不足）が
銅の酸素を奪い辰砂赤の手前、紫に

"Oxyde de Cuivre""Óxido de cobre"
Due to the momentary lack
of oxygen, the copper produced
a range of colors from purple to red.

口縁の弁柄も、鉄そのものに還る
にぶく光ってる鉄、いい、おやっ
のぞくと、爽やかに流れる、水色

善哉とむかし茶碗-Old Hand Painted Bowl

たっぷりと呉須を含んだ
だみ筆が、松や岩や波を
濃淡で描いてある、二つ
の欠け茶碗、見比べると
たしかに一回きりの筆跡

"Zenzai, sopa dulce de habas
del azuki con el mochi"
Chunky sweet bean soup with
kagamimochi(round rice cake),
New Year decoration.

鮭握り-Salmon & Gouda Nigiri

なにしろ「サーモン」好き
だから、わがままに三かん
ゴーダチーズ、相性いいぞ

"J'aime le saumon."
When I make 'nigiri-zushi'
at home, I like a 'huge' piece
of raw salmon layered
on top of hand-formed rice.
The cheese is a nice match.
Three pieces are enough for me.

バースデイパイ-Persimmon Apple Pie

パイ生地に黒砂糖茶さじ一杯
干し柿と煮リンゴで十分甘い

"Pâté en croûte fait maison"
"Empanada hecha en casa"
The fruit becomes much sweeter
when cooked or dried.
I added a teaspoon of brown sugar
to the dough, that's all!

サラダと焼締窯変-Yakishime Yohen Plate

素焼きした原土皿、いくらか
たわむように、サヤの赤貝に
さかさにのせ、密封して焼成

ほんのり緋色、どころか、モミ
炭、貝殻多すぎて、表面大暴れ
粗い砥石や紙ヤスリで擦ったが

"Yakishime"-fired without any applied glaze
"Yohen"--kiln changes

I placed the bisque fired plate upside
down on three seashells inside the saggar,
packed with combustible materials--
rice husks, charcoal, and seashells.
