ノミで白樺を彫る-Birch Hollowed with Gouge

ノミの背を石で叩いて粗彫り
ノミを横に滑らせ、薄く削る
地球が、転がり落ちないよう

土のかたちができあがると
それをどんなふうに置いたら
いい光、を、放つだろうか
これも、歩きながら考える

Fired clay pieces often require something to sit on,
with which they might send out some light.
I decided to use a fallen birch tree.


ほら、できた、ちょこん、とのっかる
「地球は発芽する」に、倒木はぴったし
-----この地球は空洞。粘土玉を指先でのばしては新聞をまるめてつめて、それからゆっくり閉じていく。
素焼きしてから新聞の灰を発芽した割れ目から振り落とす。
This globe was pinched, stuffed with newspaper,
of which ash was shaken out of the slit after bisque fired.

粘土はやわらかい、が
木は硬くて柔らかい、ふ・し・ぎ
なんてったって、荒いノミあと、たまんない

This piece "earth sprouts" sits comfortably.
I like the rough surface, which shows it was scooped out with a gouge.
I felt I should touch 'hard yet soft' wood more often.
